When magnetic impurities are placed in the proximity to a superconductor, the Yu-Shiba-Rusinov bound states can appear inside the superconducting gap. We have fabricated Ni nanoislands with honeycomb lattice on Pb(111) substrate at low temperature, and we have resolved the superconductivity with a slightly enhanced gap size on the honeycomb-structured Ni nanoislands via the proximity effect. Finally, we have deposited Fe and Co atoms on top of honeycomb-structured Ni nanoislands, and investigated the emergence of nontrivial in-gap states.
