A cell relies on an intact plasma membrane to function. How does a mammalian cell, then, respond to plasma membrane injuries? First, I want to discuss an ultra-structural analysis of plasma membrane injury sites, which showed the selective formation of an actin architecture at these cellular locations. Furthermore, I would like to discuss how actin structure formation implicates plasma membrane injury sites as prime locations for mediating extracellular release.
